About This Calculator

Last updated: July 2026

PTOPayoutCalc is a free, independent tool that estimates what an employee should be owed for unused vacation or PTO when leaving a job. It is not affiliated with any state Department of Labor, employer, payroll provider, or law firm — it exists so someone facing a resignation, layoff, or termination can get a quick, transparent estimate before reviewing their actual final paycheck.

How the Calculation Works

The tool converts a salary or hourly rate into a daily and hourly figure using the workdays and hours-per-day you specify, then multiplies that rate by your unused PTO balance. The state reference table reflects publicly available summaries of which states treat accrued vacation as earned wages (payout required) versus states where payout depends entirely on the employer's written policy.

What This Calculator Does Not Do

It does not access your actual payroll records, verify your real PTO balance, or account for company-specific accrual caps, waiting periods, separate sick-leave banks, or forfeiture clauses in an employee handbook. State labor law summaries can change and this tool does not track amendments in real time. Every figure produced here is an estimate for planning purposes, not a legal determination of what you are owed.

No Affiliation, No Legal Advice

This site is not connected to any state labor agency, employer, or law firm, and nothing here constitutes legal or tax advice. For your actual balance, consult your HR department or pay stub. For a legal opinion on whether payout is owed in your state, consult your state's Department of Labor or an employment attorney.
